Diners rave about the freshness of the fish here, particularly the cod and haddock, which showcase the quality this restaurant upholds. People appreciate the welcoming atmosphere, especially for those with dogs; many guests mention their pets receiving treats, making visits enjoyable for the whole family.

The menu’s variety stands out, especially the plant-based options like Tofish & Chips and Jackfruit Scampi, catering to vegan and vegetarian diners. Guests also compliment the thoughtful presentation of dishes like the Prawn Cocktail, which is beautifully arranged and bursting with flavor. Overall, attentive service remains a highlight, with staff going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience.

Most Disliked

Some patrons express disappointment regarding the lack of high chairs for children, which can limit visits for families with young kids. A few reviews mention minor issues with drink presentations, such as beers served without any froth, suggesting a need for more attention to detail in this area.

Additionally, during busier times, wait times can stretch longer than expected, particularly for food delivery, which might deter diners looking for an efficient bite during lunch hour. Overall, while these drawbacks exist, they do not overshadow the strong positive vibes surrounding The Pier’s offerings.

As it’s lockdown, couldn’t dine in the restaurant therefore went for a takeaway menu instead. Reviews showed the food was amazing and decided to give a try. I was amazed but the freshness of the fried fish. It was absolutely delicious!! 😋 the chips were definitely homemade cut in different sizes. Truly satisfied with the amazing fried fish meal for the day. Hope once lockdown is over. I will get the chance to come in and dine.

Great place for lunch. Fish was incredibly fresh, staff were attentive and friendly. I had the Scampi which was very succulent. Food came out at a good pace, drinks were delivered immediately. My Peroni had no head on it but tasted good. N.B. no high chairs for kids

Pier one, simply fish Not your ordinary fish and chip restaurant, by the decor you would almost think you were seated along a pier, soft hues of blue blend in with stressed wood and pictures of fishing boats. Staff well trained in hospitality and service. Seated and supplied with free bottle of water, Drinks first, excellent drinks menu extensive wine list with wines from Italy,France,Spain,Chile,South Africa,Argentina Australia, New Zealand and even a Champagne from Sussex !. Starter Prawn cocktail, beautifully presented all fresh melt in the mouth with a seafood sauce like no other. Table cleared in record time... mains Haddock and chips with mushy peas, again excellent service and just what you would expect from a classic high street fish restaurant, well presented with minted mushy peas. The staff couldn't do enough and made my visit a relaxing and very enjoyable one. They do cater for vegetarians and go out of their way to be helpful and knowledgable. Payment options Cash or card...: Highly recommend ******

We went for lunch with our dog who was completely spoiled rotten with treats, fish, sausages and a puppachino. The food was lovely and really reasonably priced and the staff were lovely. Cannot recommend enough.

We found this place when searching for somewhere dog friendly and also able to cater for dietary requirements. We were delighted with both the quality of the food and the lovely friendly service. The staff were able to adapt my (enormous serving of!) mussels to be dairy free and just left the bread off (the fries were gluten free... and delicious!). Our dog was even given her own sausage and bowl of water to enjoy! Will definitely return.

Fish is always fresh, and chips crispy. One of my regular haunts for eating in, and such a nice guy who runs it. He was chuffed when I said it was better than the same meal I had in Rick Stein's a couple of weeks back!
